IF YOU'RE ATTEMPTING TO TRACE YOUR FAMILY TREE
At present we are not able to personally assist those hoping to locate accounts of relatives or those researching their family tree. You may, however, find the following links of some use :
- Getting Started (an article by the BBC)
- Imperial War Museum guides
- National Archives
- National Archives Guide to Researching Military Personnel
- It's possible that a soldier's Regiment has its own list of Prisoners of War or company war diaries. You can search for the contact details for Regimental Museums in ARCHON.
- POW Officers service records might be worth investigation if your relative was a POW at any time during the war; after repatriation all Officers were required to complete a report concerning the circumstances of their capture. If this survives, it will be held in the individual's service record or within the Regimental archive.
